PE and Sport
PE
Curriculum Lead: Mrs P. Mallinder
Intent
At St. Mary and St Michael Catholic Primary School, we recognise the importance of PE and the role it has to play in promoting long term, healthy lifestyles. We aim to provide children with the skills and confidence to take part in a wide range of physical activity and sport, as well as developing their knowledge of how to lead a happy, healthy lifestyle.
Implementation
Here at SSMM PE is taught using the GetSet4PE scheme of work. This ensures that our children have full coverage of the NC and that there is a clear progression of skills throughout the school. Once these skills are learnt, our children will have opportunities to compete in sport and other engaging activities that build their own character and embed values such as teamwork, resilience and the drive to achieve their own, unique goals.
Impact
At the end of the year we expect the children to have achieved ARE for their year group. Some children will progress further and develop a passion for PE and sport. We offer opportunities for the children to build on this through a rich programme of extra-curricular activities. This also offers the opportunity to raise the profile of our school in the wider community of Garstang.
Progression of Knowledge and Skills
We use the Lancashire National Curriculum Assessment Material and the materials within the GetSet4PE scheme of work for our progression of skills and knowledge. We adapt these where necessary to meet the needs of our pupils.
