Art and Design
Art has the capacity to develop and heighten awareness of our pupils' visions and experiences of life. Art therefore is seen to have a central role to play in communicating ideas.
By studying Art pupils at SS Mary and Michael Catholci Primary School are able to learn a great deal about people and cultures through the centuries. We endeavour to guide and help each child to make discoveries about him or herself, about the environment and to be able to interpret and express these discoveries in visual form. The curriculum is based on a cross-curricular approach, a series of experiences are planned which allow the children to develop awareness of visual, special and tactile qualities. These cover drawing, painting, printing, collage, modelling, 3-D work and critical studies.
Arts Week 2019
The theme of Arts Week 2019 was inspired by the 50th anniversary of the first man on the Moon. The week saw the children sewing astronauts and rockets, baking space biscuits, creating stars, constellations and space shelters, performing space themed songs and dances as well as trying different ways to make a rocket travel and creating spaced themed games for Fun Night ...... so much creativity! The week culminated in our annual open day seeing staff and children in space themed costumes, welcoming many visitors, special guests, family and friends to school to be toured by our year six pupils! Thank you to all who supported, helped or volunteered in any way at throughout the week!
