World Book Day 2021
This year, we celebrated World Book Day throughout the week beginning Monday 1st March 2021. We celebrated the joy and value of books and reading. Even though we were still in Lockdown, we wanted the children to experience the fun activities which they would usually have experienced in school.
We held a ‘Masked Reader’ competition for the children and parents, where staff volunteers disguised themselves reading a short extract from ‘The Boy, The Mole, The Fox and The Horse’.
Children at home and in school dressed up as their favourite book characters. Amongst the many characters from Harry Potter, and multiple princesses across the year groups, we also had Fantastic Mr Fox, Little Red Riding Hood, Matilda, Where's Wally, Horrid Henry, Gangsta Granny, Mildred Hubble and the Cat in the Hat, amongst many others. Staff also enjoyed dressing up as much as the children.
The children also took part in the World Book Day Reading Star Challenge. They completed challenges such as: read aloud in a funny voice; read in the bath; read in an unusual place and listen to an audiobook.
We had children making reading dens, videos re-telling a short story with puppets, creating pieces of artwork based on a text, a David Walliams Assembly just to name a few of the exciting learning opportunities going in school.
