Mother's Day is celebrated in the UK on the middle Sunday of Lent - in 2010 this is Sunday 14th March. This special day was traditionally called Mothering Sunday, when young girls and boys in service (maids and servants in big houses) were allowed home to visit their mothers, but in recent years it has become more popularly known as Mother's Day. It is traditional for children (of all ages) to give their Mother a card and a gift, and often to take them their breakfast in bed as a special treat. Mother's Day poem Sometimes you get discouraged Because I am so small And always leave dirty marks On furniture and walls. But every day I'm growing I'll be grown up some day And all those little dirty marks Will all have gone away. As I grow, I'll change a lot, The years will fly right by.
